Welcome to ED 4862

We are in a time of rapid change. Technology has changed the way we create, share, consume and interact with information. Most of our younger generation embrace this shift easily, adopting and leveraging technology throughout their daily lives.

Many educators are not so persuaded as to the benefits of technology in their classrooms. They may see technology as a distraction or, worse yet, dangerous. Others simply prefer to continue teaching as they have always done.

What about teachers who do not use technology in their classrooms? Can they continue to be "good" teachers without embracing technology or does serving students well in the 21st century demand for teachers to use technology for teaching and learning?

  1. Yes,

You can be a good teacher with or with not the use of technology. What technology does is allows a teacher to better enhance the subject to teach or get points across teaching subjects.

  2. The demand is already here for a technology rich environments. I believe it would only be fair to the students and the parents for the teacher to embrace the changes and move forward with the 21st century. If a teacher choses not to incorperate technology in the classroom and continues to move in the past direction, I believe that they are chosing the wrong direction. While other classrooms are moving forward into the 21st century with teaching and learning tools that would be essential for the students to be compatible with the technology that's to come. Did you know that the top 10 jobs of today did not exist before 2004??
My answer would have to be NO

  3. I agree with snevin. You can still be a good teacher without the use of technology in the classroom.
However, after watching the clip "shift happens", I think it is good that our children have the oppurtunity to be studying technology sooner rather than later. They will be prepared for what is coming in the near future.
But educators still need to communicate with the students and assist them in areas they need help with, without the use of technology.

  4. I believe you can still be a good teacher without the use of technology, however, that same teacher could possibly achieve the higher level of interest form the students by incorporating technology into her teaching methods. There are a wide range of teaching tools on the web, for all different types of learners, and it makes learning more interactive.
Our future "is" technology, therefore we must let them explore using these valuable tools for their future.

  5. Yes, Mrs.Cole we need to expose our children sooner then later to technology. We need to to embrace the new age with old age teaching methods. Just like adding a clock to existing product.

  6. Yes teachers will always be good teachers, with or without technology. Technology is a tool that we all embraced with the change in time. Teachers who do not use it now will eventually shift to technology, with a little training and hands on learning, they will change.
Change is all around us, its a matter of how we handle it and adapt to it......hummm CHANGE!
